An EXCELLENT learning opportunity for kids
We enjoy welcoming students aboard our School Days Train Ride! Celebrating a successful school year with local students has become a tradition for our staff and we are looking forward to the 2020 school year. Call us today to schedule- (360) 748-9593.
The last week of May and the first 2 weeks of June are reserved for educational field trips.
Our suggested departure times are 10:00am, and a 12:30pm; however we will try to accommodate your transportation needs. Please contact 360-748-9593, or fill out the form below to discuss options for scheduling your group.
In keeping field trips educational, students will learn the history of our steam locomotive, diesel engine and 1920’s coaches from our expert engineers, brakeman, conductors, and volunteers. Due to repair work needed on the steam locomotive, an alternative mode of transportation may require our diesel engine to pull our train. The coaches have been newly renovated and upgraded for your enjoyment.
Your visit will begin with a brief tour of the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad grounds and rolling stock (train cars), before embarking on a leisurely trip “back in time.” Experiencing the sights and sounds of rail travel may be a unique experience for your students. We are excited to share this with all of you.
Capacity for the trips is approximately 200 passengers if using both closed cars and the two open cars. Please note that since weather can be unpredictable and outside seats are only partially covered, you may want to encourage students to dress appropriately for the weather.
We strive to keep costs to a minimum to encourage schools to explore our rich Lewis County heritage. A trip to the former train-stop at Milburn goes through agricultural farmland and is 13 miles roundtrip. It will last a little over an hour. The group rate is $7.00 per person. In order to maximize cost effectiveness of the ride, your school may be scheduled with other area schools.
Lewis County is rich with railroad history and more. The Lewis County Historical Museum and the Chehalis Veteran’s Museum, which is within walking distance from our Train Depot also welcome your students for group tours.
Students are welcome to bring box lunches and have a picnic on our rail yard or the train. Within a few miles of our rail yard are parks, including Recreation Park/Penny Playground and Stan Hedwall Park (w/covered picnic kitchen), both at Exit 76, and the Alexander-Lintott Park at Exit 77, just off of Hwy 6. Nearby the neighborhood Westside Park is a great place where students can also picnic and play.
We look forward to you contacting us soon to make arrangements for your class, group, or entire school!
